Overview

Our Religious Education (RE) curriculum encourages and inspires all pupils to contemplate, discuss and reflect upon the different faiths, and non-faiths, within our world.

Pupils are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to be part of a diverse and accepting community.

RE lessons are delivered in an environment where pupils feel confident and safe to express their own views while listening to and respectfully commenting on the views of others.

As pupils progress through the school, they gradually build upon their knowledge of the six main faiths and the corresponding sacred texts. They also learn about a range of religious and non-religious festivals and the teachings of inspirational and influential people.

Pupils are taught how to sensibly and respectfully explore and discuss a variety of age-appropriate ethical issues. They are given regular opportunities to revisit and secure key skills and knowledge.

Lessons are made both accessible and challenging for all pupils, regardless of their ability, through the provision of differentiated and scaffolded activities. To ensure engagement, these tasks contain opportunities for paired and group work and for pupils to demonstrate their understanding and opinions in a number of different ways. Further enrichment comes from visits to places of worship within the community.
