Overview

Whilst studying art at Anns Grove, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required to create, appreciate and evaluate a broad and varied range of artworks.

The school’s curriculum is sequenced such that pupils learn about artists and art from different eras, places and cultures. This allows them to appreciate and understand the development and history of art. In addition to learning about the work of famous artists, pupils are also taught the processes behind creating art and equipped with a wide set of techniques to express themselves.

The teaching of art has a rigorous focus on the acquisition of key skills, knowledge and vocabulary, relevant to pupils’ age and prior attainment. Pupils engage with a range of media and stimuli which they will use as inspiration for their own pieces.

Art lessons are engaging, inclusive of all abilities and encourage pupils to consider a range of perspectives and opinions.

Pupils expand their cultural capital and understanding of what art is through experiencing it in a number of contexts, working alongside visitors to the school and entering competitions and exhibitions held both locally and nationally.
