Overview
We want every child to become a confident, fluent and enthusiastic mathematician. We believe that maths should be meaningful, enjoyable and applicable to everyday life.
Our curriculum is designed to build strong mathematical foundations by developing fluency and deep conceptual understanding. We use a concrete, pictorial and symbolic approach, helping children make connections and think mathematically with clarity and confidence.
Learning is carefully sequenced so that concepts build on prior knowledge, enabling children to deepen their understanding over time and apply their skills in a variety of contexts. We provide regular opportunities for children to reason, solve problems and explain their thinking.
Mathematics lessons are planned using the National Curriculum, supported by objectives from the White Rose Maths scheme of work. Our teaching follows a ‘Skill, Application, Challenge’ model, which ensures that children practise key skills, apply them in purposeful tasks and extend their learning through rich problem-solving activities.
We use a consistent, whole-school calculation policy so that children develop confidence and accuracy in their methods as they progress. Times tables are taught daily, and children are shown strategies to help them recall facts rapidly and apply them across a range of mathematical tasks.
